What should I expect during my first therapy session?

Since the therapy process and outcome are connected to the therapeutic relationship, the first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. It is also an opportunity for you to see if you feel comfortable with your therapist and their therapy style.

Do you prescribe medication?

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, we do not prescribe medication however, we respect individual decisions to use or not use medication. With your written permission, we are happy to work collaboratively with your primary care physician or psychiatrist.

Are sessions confidential?

Can I use my insurance benefits?

RMCW accepts most major insurances and depending on your health insurance provider/plan, it is possible for your therapy services to be covered in full or in part. Please contact your provider to verify if and how your plan compensates you for therapy services. When contacting insurance, we recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider:

  • Does my health insurance plan include mental health services?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
  • Do I have a co-pay or co-insurance fee? If so, what is my fee?
  • Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, how many therapy sessions are covered?
  • Do I need a referral from my primary care physician to access my mental health service benefits?

Weekly sessions are recommended as they foster a strong therapeutic relationship and builds momentum towards your therapy goals however, depending on the nature and intensity of your presenting problem(s), sessions could be more or less frequent. Whatever the frequency, your therapy will be tailored to your specific needs.
